What is most important in your life?

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." -2 Tim 3:16-17

This post is for my Christian brothers and sisters out there. I have a question for all of us today. What is it that forms your world view? What is it that influences your family the most? In these verses Paul is exhorting Timothy to stay in the Word of God. He is telling him that the Word of God is what should mold and shape us and our world view. It is profitable for all the things we need as the people of God and it is the main way that God communicates to us who He is, what He desires from us, how we should act, and how we should think. The Word of God should be what shapes and molds our view of ourselves, others, and the world around us. Sadly in this day and age I think if we were all honest with ourselves we would admit that the Word of God is not really what molds and shapes us, our family, and our world view. We allow things like Fox News, Facebook, social media, TV, radio, movie stars, politicians, etc to shape our world view. We are not even opening our bibles daily, or multiple times a day, to allow it to be the lens we look through. We name the name of Christ and say we follow God but then we don’t even know His word. How many times have you read the whole bible through? How many days a week do you open your bible? How often do you read your bible with your kids or your family? Now compare that to how much time we spend in front of the TV, listening to godless music, on our phones, on social media, watching news stations, or reading political articles. How much of your day is spent in the word and prayer vs all these other things? Now ask yourself what is really shaping your world view and the view you have of yourself. In Psalm 1, David says this…..

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” -Psa 1:1-3

Notice that David compares a man who spends time in the scripture to a tree planted by a river of water. The word of God should be our nourishment. It should be what causes us to grow and bear fruit. Without the word of God we are like a tree planted in the desert, we will wither and die. I write this not to just convict you but also to motivate myself to spend more time with God and in His word than “walking in the council of the ungodly” or “standing in the way of sinners” or “sitting in the seat of the scornful”….in other words we need to spend more time in God’s word than we do caught up in the ways of the world. God will not ask you if you were republican, He will not ask you what your view of immigration was, He won’t ask you how many times you debated people on Facebook, He will ask you what you did with His Son, Jesus, and if you bore fruit for the gospel. Let’s all make some changes today!

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” -Heb 4:12-13
