Shadows & Types of the Priesthood

"The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance. Therefore shall they have no Inheritance among their brethren: the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them."

-Deuteronomy 18:1-2 "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth."

-Revelation 5:9-10 "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."

-1 Peter 2:5 The Levitical priesthood was a shadow and type of what we Christians are today in Christ. No one was allowed to be a priest to God but those who were traced to Aaron’s house. The Levitical priesthood found their true inheritance in God alone and received their needs from Him and His offerings. In the same way today, through Christ, Christians have been made into a priesthood of God offering spiritual sacrifices that are made acceptable in Christ (1 Peter 2:5, Rev. 5:9-10). No one can serve God, or be made a part of this priesthood, that is not spiritually a descendant of Christ. By His blood He has made us a kingdom of priests to God (Rev. 5:9-10). As with the Levitical priesthood Christians too should look at God as their inheritance. God supplies all our needs. We then look to serve Him with our life and look toward out inheritance and home in the new heavens and new earth when Christ returns not in this world (Hebrews 13:14). Our life should be made a spiritual offering to Christ and we should look to serve Him in all we do (Hebrews 13:15)! Can we truly say from the heart what David did in the Psalms? "My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works."

-Psalm 73:25-28
