False Teachers
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Isaiah 30:9-11 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
——————- Just as there were false prophets among Gods people in the Old Testament there are false teachers among Gods people in the New Testament. There is a constant theme throughout the epistles in the New Testament that we must be on guard against the attacks of Satan against the church and that the worst of these attacks will not come from the world on the outside but from satans own ministers working from the inside (2pet 2:1-3, 2cor 11:13-15). The Bible even warns that the antichrist will arise from within the church, which it did in the papacy (2thes 2:3-11).
It’s a grave danger today that we are taught in many American churches to set aside right teaching, doctrine, and theology for “unity” with anyone/everyone who names the name of Christ. Some of the biggest names in the church today have said that it doesn’t matter if you are Mormon, catholic, orthodox, etc because we are all Christian. This may sound great but it’s untrue. In the Old Testament the Jews invited false teaching (isa 30:9-11) because it made them feel better about themselves and their ignoring Gods word and warnings. In the same way today many churches invite these “feel good messages” instead of Gods true word because it tickles their ears and fulfills their lusts (2tim 4:3-4). We must not be willing to sacrifice Gods truth for a false unity. There is a unity among Gods true people but that unity is in Gods word/truth (John 17:16-21).
The church in America needs more people willing to stand for truth, doctrine, theology, and in doing so we will help free people from being under the leadership of these ministers of Satan who lead people into bondage instead of freedom. There is no freedom without Christ and without Gods truth you can not know the true Christ. Without Gods truth the Christ you follow and the gospel you hear are “another gospel” and another Christ! (Galatians 1:6-10)
